Some may be curious as to why flags are flying at half-staff today. On Friday, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz ordered flags at all government buildings be lowered in honor of Ryan Bialke, an officer with the Red Lake Police Department killed in the line of duty July 27.

Bialke was born and raised in Buffalo and was a 2002 graduate of Buffalo High School. He spent the last six years working for the Red Lake Police Department.

Bialke’s funeral is at 1 p.m. today (Aug. 2) at the Red Lake Humanities Building in Red Lake, Minn. with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bemidji.
