Wright County Government: U Of M Extension Conducting Farmland Rental Workshops

Landlords, farmers and agri-business professionals should make plans to attend one of the informative in-person meetings being held across Minnesota in November and December. These free meetings are being provided by the University of Minnesota Extension. Farmland rental rates are the largest input cost the farmer has. Determining a fair farm rent agreement is always challenging due to fluctuating commodity prices and input costs.

Negotiating a fair rental agreement that satisfies the landowner and the farmer is a challenge. David Bau and Nathan Hulinsky, Extension educators in ag business management, will review historical rental rates throughout Minnesota and use data-driven decisions to help determine a fair farmland rental rate for both parties. 

Attendees will receive several informative worksheets and factsheets that will help to determine what a fair 2022 farmland rental rate is. Some in-person locations will require face masks to be worn during meetings, so plan to bring a mask with you to all workshops.

The meetings will be held from November 3 through mid-December 2021. There will be follow-up Zoom meetings scheduled regionally across the state in January and February.
