Alleged Domestic Violence In Cottage Grove Leads To SWAT Team Standoff

A Washington County SWAT team was called to a home Monday for a Cottage Grove man accused of domestic assault.
The incident ended after a two-hour standoff during which police set up a perimeter outside the suspect’s house. Authorities believed he was possibly armed.

Police eventually arrested 26-year-old Matthew Joseph Franssen at about 12:45 a.m. after he allegedly tried to flee the house as a SWAT vehicle breached the home, the Southwest County Bulletin reported:
Franssen was booked at the Washington County jail on suspicion of second-degree assault with a knife, domestic assault-strangulation and domestic assault. Formal criminal charges were pending Monday, police said.
Police were called at 9:11 p.m. Sunday to a report of a woman who had been assaulted by her boyfriend at their home. The call came from a neighboring home, where the woman had fled to following the alleged assault.
