It is hard to imagine that 25 years have passed since the deadliest terrorist attack in American history. A quarter century after the September 11, 2001 attacks, 100 million Americans are too young to remember the day that changed our nation forever.
Tuesday, September 11, 2001, began as a beautiful, calm, clear, and warm late-summer morning. For those of us living on that day, we will never forget where we were or what we were doing, whether it was going to work, dropping off kids at school or just starting our day at our jobs.
Terrorists attacked the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and attempted a fourth strike that was stopped only by the courage of the passengers of Flight 93. Nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost, including first responders who ran toward danger without hesitation. Today, on Patriot Day, we honor their memory. We remember the families forever changed, the heroes who gave everything, and the unity that carried our nation forward. As members of American Legion Post 501 and VFW Post 9024, we affirm our commitment to preserving their legacy and standing together in service, remembrance, and resolve.
To commemorate this historic 25th anniversary, the Woodbury American Legion Post 501 and VFW Post 9024 will be holding Poppy Days on 11-13 Sept 2026. The red poppy is a nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice worn by Americans since World War I to honor those who served and died for our country. The poppy reminds Americans of the sacrifices made by veterans while protecting this countries freedom and those who died on 9/11.
