7 Tips For Successful Juicing Detox
Time to get back on track with a healthier lifestyle.

In October 2012, I was looking for ways to be proactive with my health and to lose the weight I gained due to Prednisone. I started reading about how healthy juicing can be and admired the before and after pictures of people who have successfully juiced.

Before jumping in with both feet, I had to do a little research on how to do a juicing cleanse, what to juice, and how to eat after juicing. I took notes from several sources:

Mario and I decided to take this journey together and we began the "Juicing Experience." I originally wanted to do a feast/fast.

A feast/fast is where you are strictly drinking juice and water. The longer you fast, the more opportunity you have to detox your body and allow it to repair itself.
Some people have cured themselves from diseases by strictly juicing for years.
However, Mario and I were novice juicers and it wasn't recommended to do a long fast. We agreed that we would give juicing a 30-day trial to see how we liked the new lifestyle. So, we juiced all day and had a sensible gluten-free dinner. Here are some important tips if you are planning to start juicing, or doing a feast/fast.
1) Start with an enema during the first one to three days as it helps your bowel to move along quicker to end the digestion in the colon and get into a fasting state sooner.
2) Drink plenty of water to aid with the elimination.
3) Start your day with 2 teaspoons of lemon juice as soon as you wake up.
4) Drink 1 glass of warm distilled water within the first hour of waking. Distilled water is suppose to be best for our purifying experience.
5) Juice during all meal times and before a workout.
6) Remember to rinse mouth after drinking juice to avoid teeth decay.
7) Stick to simple recipes and experiment with things you like to juice. I learned I did not like tomatoes juiced. Or, at least I have not found a combination that I am crazy about even though I love tomatoes.
In the beginning I did not have a juicer, and had to blend the fruits and vegetables. I did not like the texture, so I did a little more research and started to stain the juice after blending. Much better flavor and texture. I now own a juicer as it it easier to juice and the flavor is amazing.
As we neared the end of the month, I started to do a little more research on how to handle the last few days and how we should eat after.
Slowly reintroduce solid foods, just like when we were babies.
During the first week we will have small portions of fresh fruits and vegetables. Small portions because our stomachs have shrunk and will no longer tolerate a full plate of food.
The following week we will slowly add chicken, fish, and seafood. Again small 3 oz servings with an equal amount of fresh fruit and vegetables.
By the end of the week we may be able to start adding in beef.
After one month of juicing, It became part of my daily life. I had more energy, clarity, and I felt so much better. I even dropped 12 pounds in the first month. Too bad that I didn't stick to the juicing after the holidays... I even broke my promise to myself and started eating processed foods, pizzas, and chips.
Two weeks ago I bought a juicer, an inexpensive one from Target. I have since started juicing my breakfast. This week I even started juicing my lunch. Next week I will begin a juice feast/fast for at least 30 days.
My goal is to lose 10 pounds per month over the next 4 months while regaining my healthy physical, emotional and mental state. If following me on my journey is of interest, please let me know and I will blog about it. I will share the recipes and the experience.
