Love of Jewelry Inspires Upcoming Woodbury Benefit
Read how Ladies' Night Out got started.

There’s nothing remarkable about a woman with a fondness for jewelry.
But when her affinity for sparkle can help students whose parents have been killed or seriously injured—and enable others to do the same—that’s worth mentioning.
Woodbury’s Ladies’ Night Out—Shopping for Scholarships, planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 8 at Prestwick Golf Club, was the brainchild of Marcy Plitzkow, an avowed jewelry devotee.

She started selling Cookie Lee jewelry because she had some free time and liked their products and price point. And getting discounted jewelry for herself was a nice side-benefit, she said.
As a vendor, she took part in a ladies’ night out event at a golf course in Dellwood, and was impressed by how fun and successful the event was.

“I thought it was the best event ever,” she said. “The guests were having a great time.”
After she became involved with the SFM Foundation, a charitable organization founded by her fellow employees at workers’ compensation insurer SFM, she pitched the idea as a potential fundraiser. The foundation provides scholarships for students whose parents were killed or severely injured on the job.
Now, with the help of a committed group of volunteers at SFM, the event has become a reality.
Twenty-five vendors will be there, selling not only jewelry, but purses, housewares, cosmetics, scrapbooking supplies, food, homemade gifts and more. The event will also include drinks and appetizers, a silent auction and mini spa services.
“It’s so exciting seeing this idea come to fruition,” she said. “It should be a great night for those who attend.”
