Crosswinds Arts and Science School Open House

Crosswinds is hosting an Open House February 5 and 7. Crosswinds is a year round magnet school serving the East Metro.

Thursday, February 5, 6:30 - 8:00 pm & Saturday, February, 7, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Crosswinds Arts and Science School is a year-round magnet school where urban and suburban students, families, and staff join together to explore, create, and learn. The academic program integrates arts and science into all subject areas and emphasizes hands-on, group work that helps students in grades 6 through 10 connect what they are learning to the world beyond school. By fostering a culturally-diverse educational community, Crosswinds addresses all students’ special talents and needs as they become responsible citizens and environmental stewards.

Our goal for the Open House is to share with the East Metro the programs Crosswinds offers to students to ensure their success, academically and artistically. Families will take student led tours and hear from staff about the rigorous year-round curriculum, what it means to be arts and science focused, and service learning opportunities. Students learn in diverse classrooms: 50% of our students are students of color, 29% of students receive special education services, and 12% of our students receive ELL services. By creating an open, interactive environment, all students receive the attention they need to be successful.

The 37 acres of forest, wetlands, and lakes surrounding the Crosswinds campus allow students to interact with the natural world frequently. Multiple gardens tended by the students and the outdoor classrooms allow for truly hands-on learning. Crosswinds has won many awards for environmental awareness, including the Woodbury Environmental Excellence Award, a Certificate of Approval for Establishing and Maintaining a School Forest, and Excel Energy’s Energy Star Award.

Crosswinds provides a strong arts program. The music program is comprised of an award-winning orchestra, concert band, and musical theater. The theater program challenges students of all levels of experience from beginner to advanced students. The Crosswinds theater program offers curriculum that includes acting, movement, and voice, with training opportunities for actor-singers, playmakers, and stage manager. Families who attend the Open House on February 5th will be able to see Crosswinds’ Theater program in action starting at 6 pm, featuring our Beginning and Middle School acting classes.
