Distracted Stillwater Woman Struck Boy In Woodbury: Police
Police say a distracted driver, age 24, struck a teenager riding his bike on the way to school in Woodbury Friday morning.
WOODBURY, MN — A distracted driver struck a teenager riding his bike on the way to school Friday morning, police say. The boy, 14, was biking in a crosswalk on Pioneer Road at Bailey Ridge in Woodbury when a vehicle traveling south on Pioneer Road hit him, according to authorities.
Police claim the driver, a 24-year-old woman from Stillwater, was distracted by her phone when the crash occurred, the Woodbury Bulletin reported:
The school district used crossing guards at the intersection until December 2015. The district could not sustain a crossing guard for the few students who were using that option and requested that students use an alternative route that would take them to corners with crossing guards closer to Lake Middle School, communications director Barb Brown said. A letter to the affected parents said the change went into effect in early January 2016.
