Does Woodbury Need Another Hotel?

WOODBURY, MN — Does Woodbury need another hotel? UpTown Suites, a hotel chain based in Georgia, is proposing to build a four story, 131-room hotel at Woodbury's CityPlace development, located off Interstate 94 and Radio Drive.

The proposed hotel would be a stone's throw from the Residence Inn by Marriott and the under construction Marriott Courtyard Hotel. (For more local news, click here to sign up for real-time news alerts and newsletters from Minnesota Patch.)

The UpTown Suites company is looking to add locations on the edge of various metropolitan areas that are experiencing a booming economy. CEO Jon Pertchik told the Woodbury Bulletin that Woodbury fits that description:

"We were really looking for these towns that have their own identity," he said. "Every place we've opened the chambers (of commerce) have been on fire."

Pertchik said demand for extended stay options has for traveling professionals and families has long gone unmet, especially in an increasingly mobile world.
