Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. WLA is a public school with a private school feeling. WLA students wear school uniforms to promote equality, reduce peer pressure, and minimize distractions. Small class sizes at WLA allow for teachers and staff to provide personalized instruction, build strong relationships, and increase student engagement. The East Ridge American Legion baseball team finished up play in the Gopher Classic on Sunday at Benilde-St. Margaret's in St. Louis Park. East Ridge ended the tournament with a 2-3 record. Sioux Falls East, S.D., won the pool with a perfect 5-0 record and advanced to Monday's round of 16. Sioux Falls East will face Centennial at Edina's Braemar Park. East Ridge entered Sunday's final day of pool play with a 2-1 record and a chance to win the pool if it won both its remaining games. But the squad lost to Sioux Falls East 8-1 to begin the day, then lost 10-9 to the Rochester Redhawks to end the tournament. Alexandria finished as the pool's runner-up with a 3-2 record but did not advance to the round of 16. Sioux Falls East must win two games on Monday in Edina to advance the semifinals, which begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Minnetonka's Veterans Field.
