WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — The body of the third passenger involved in Sunday's plane crash in the east Twin Cities metro was recovered Thursday night.
There were three people in the small Cessna aircraft when it left Fleming Field Municipal Airport in South St. Paul on Sunday afternoon. The plane crashed into a water-filled quarry on Grey Cloud Island, located south of Mooers Lake and north of the Mississippi River.
Search operation conditions were difficult because the quarry walls are sand-based and the quarry itself is up to 200 feet deep, police said.
