Kitchen Fire Reminder: No Water on Oil Fires

A home at the 8000 block of Boulder Ridge Drive sustained smoke damage during a fire Saturday.

A kitchen fire broke out at the 8000 block of Boulder Ridge Road on Saturday, May 26, causing significant smoke damage to the home.

A resident was cooking with oil when the fire started at about 5:15 p.m., and he threw water on it, spawning further flames, according to Cmdr. John Wallgren.

The resident burned his hand while trying to remove the pan but refused medical transport, Wallgren said.

Despite the fire department’s about not putting water on grease or oil fires, “It happens all the time,” Wallgren said.

“I think people just get excited and they don’t think,” he said.
