Late-Inning Heroics For East Ridge Legion Baseball
Wermers' home run pushes locals past Okadale, 6-4, on Wednesday.
Tom Wermers saved his best for last, belting a monster seventh-inning homer to lead East Ridge to a 6-4 victory over the Oakdale Mavericks Wednesday night.
After trailing 1-0 in the first, East Ridge scored two runs in the third and two in the fifth.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, relief pitcher Mark Landgrebe gave up two hits and hit the next batter to load the bases. Eventually Oakdale scored two runs to tie the score 4-4.

In the top of the seventh, outfielder Cody Struss singled, followed by third-baseman Wermers, who hit the second pitch he saw into the Tartan Park High School parking lot in left field for a two-run bomb.
Pitcher Landgrebe closed the seventh with a strong performance to end the game.
