Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. Lightning struck a townhome at the 2200 block of St. Johns Place on Saturday afternoon. No one was home at any of the four units in the structure and no one was injured in the incident, said Woodbury Police Sgt. John Altman. There was "moderate" damage to the townhome, Altman said, though he noted that it looks fairly severe from the outside. Firefighters got the call at about 3:05 p.m. Saturday and were on scene a short time later. A firewall at the townhome held up well and a neighboring unit only incurred some light smoke damage, Altman said.
