Man Accused of Knocking Out Brother at Woodbury Home

The brother of a man who had a brain hemorrhage and was placed in intensive care has been charged with felony assault stemming from a June incident in Woodbury.

Daniel Michael McLaughlin, 44, of Scandia, allegedly beat up his brother in the garage of a home at the 9000 block of Glacier Bay, and faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.

Just before 6 p.m. on June 17, were called to the home on a report of an unconscious man who had been assaulted.

Officers arrived and found McLaughlin, who told them he got into an argument with his brother that turned physical, according to the criminal complaint. McLaughlin said his brother was “telling him how to live his life,” the complaint says.

A witness told police the two exchanged punches, and when she went to call 911 she heard a thud in the garage and a short time later found McLaughlin’s brother on the floor with blood on him, according to the complaint.

Police later spoke with McLaughlin’s brother while he was in the hospital, and he told them he had a skull fracture and a broken tooth, the complaint says. He remembered being in the garage and the argument, and then waking up with medics telling him he was being transported to the hospital.

Officers spoke with McLaughlin later, and he expressed no remorse over what happened to his brother, according to the complaint. He told police his brother must have fallen down and sustained injuries by hitting a refrigerator on his way to the ground.
