Man Arrested for Assault at Woodbury Bar

Brandon Joseph Neuman, of Cottage Grove, allegedly continued to punch a man after he was unable to defend himself.

A 22-year-old Cottage Grove man was recently charged with felony assault in Washington County District Court after a fight at a Woodbury bar.

Brandon Joseph Neuman allegedly straddled another man and continued to punch him in the face after he was unable to defend himself during a December 2010 incident at Throwbacks Grill and Bar.

A Woodbury police officer was driving by the restaurant at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 26 when he saw several people acting aggressively—some fighting on the ground—in the parking lot, according to the criminal complaint.

The officer spotted a man, later identified as Neuman, sitting on the victim and punching him with alternating fists, according to the complaint. The victim’s face was bleeding and swollen.

The man who was assaulted was treated for a fractured nose at Woodwinds Hospital. He told police he was drinking and was later kicked out of the bar, and that the last thing he remembered was leaving the bar and being on the ground surrounded by police.

Officers arrested Neuman, who told police he and the alleged victim had been arguing during the evening, according to the complaint. He said the man slipped on ice as the two engaged in mutual combat.

If convicted, Neuman faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
