Minnesota Author Inspires Woodbury Students to Get Creative

Nancy Carlson, a Minnesota native, is the author of more than 60 books, including several well-known series.

Nancy Carlson, a Minnesota children’s author and illustrator, inspired Woodbury's Middleton Elementary students to use their imaginations, get creative and be themselves during her visit on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Nancy is the author of more than 60 books, including several well-known series featuring the popular characters Arnie, Harriet, Loudmouth George, and Louanne Pig, according to school officials.

During her visit at Middleton, Nancy spent a half hour with Pre K-3, in which she demonstrated how to draw one of her favorite characters “Harriet.” She also informed students all of her books were inspired by real life events that have happened over the years, which has provided her with a unique connection to all of her literature, according to a news release.

During her time with fourth and fifth graders, Nancy had students practice doodling/drawing, inspiring them to use their imaginations. All students had the opportunity to ask Nancy questions at the end of the sessions.
