January is National Mentoring Month and the theme is "Be Someone Who Matters to Someone Who Matters." This Thursday, Jan 9 is "I Am A Mentor Day." Celebrating and recruiting mentors and raising the awareness about quality mentoring are the main goals of this national campaign. · Firearms Safety training is being delivered to Big Brothers Big Sisters organization starting this Saturday morning at Tradition Creek Outfitters in St Paul. Additional instructors could be used. Please contact KongShia Thao at koomsiab@msn.com to be a part of the training.
· Ice fish for free on January 18 - 20, 2014 for its Take-A-Kid Ice Fishing Weekend: A resident age 16 years or older may take fish by angling without an angling license and may take fish by spearing from a dark house without a spearing license and without a fish house or dark house license if the resident is accompanied by a child who is under age 16. · Lake Harriet Winter Kitefest will take place on Jan 18 from Noon to 4pm. · 7th grade Rockford Ice Fishing Experience with Three Rivers Park District and Fishing Klinic for Kids (Jim Wedell) on Feb 5th – for 60 kids in the morning and 60 more in the afternoon. They still need volunteers and some equipment. The event will take place from 8am to about 3pm. · 6th Annual ‘Charlie’s Hero Hunt & Sporting Clay Shoot’ for Minnesota Soldiers will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at the Caribou Gun Club & Hunting Preserve in Le Sueur, MN. This event provides returning soldiers with an ‘all-expense paid’ day of upland pheasant hunting, sporting clays, lunch and camaraderie with fellow servicemen/women and outdoor enthusiasts. · Learn About Fly Fishing, but didn't have anyone to show you how? During the DNR MinnAqua Beginners Fly-Fishing Weekend for Youth/Adult Pairs, youth and their adult fishing partner will team up with an experienced fly-fishing mentor to develop basic skills, learn about aquatic habitat, practice tying flies, and fish for trout together!
