Portillo’s Drive-In May Be Coming to Woodbury

Portillo's, a popular drive-in selling Italian beef sandwiches, Chicago-style hot dogs, hamburgers, and salads, has its eye on Woodbury.

Portillo’s, a popular drive-in selling Italian beef sandwiches, Chicago-style hot dogs, hamburgers, and salads, may be coming to Woodbury. The restaurant is known for its old-school style of taking orders — which are written in pencil on a white paper bag.

The Pioneer Press reported that Portillo’s has submitted a development application to establish a location north of Hudson Road and west of Radio Drive, near Cabela’s in Woodbury.

Portillo’s told WCCO the move to Minnesota came after the restaurant found success in Wisconsin.

“Because of the overwhelming response we recently received in opening our first restaurant in Wisconsin, Portillo’s has been actively looking at potential sites for new restaurants throughout the Midwest. These potential sites include the greater Twin Cities area,” Nick Scarpino of Portillo’s told WCCO.

Portillo’s currently has locations in Illinois, Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana and Wisconsin. Portillo's application will now be reviewed by Woodbury’s planning commission and city council.
