Sex Trafficking In Woodbury: Convicted 'Pimp' Gets New Charges

The charges came out of an investigation conducted by the East Metro Sex Trafficking Task Force.

WOODBURY, MN — Authorities in the east Twin Cities metro area announced Monday that a convicted "pimp" has been charged with two counts relating to sex trafficking in Woodbury and Oakdale.

Calvin Keith Caldwell Jr., 32, of Saint Paul faces one count of sex trafficking and one count of the promotion of prostitution.

The charges came out of an investigation conducted by the East Metro Sex Trafficking Task Force, which includes Oakdale and Woodbury police, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

According to the criminal complaint, on Nov. 14, police began an undercover text exchange with a phone number included in a local commercial sex ad. Through the conversation, police were given the location of a Woodbury hotel.

Authorities say an agreement was made for an hour of "full service" for $400.

Police said that later in the text conversation, the sex trafficker asked to move the meetup location to another place because the hotel staff in Woodbury would ask guests for identification.

Police were given the location of an apartment in Oakdale, and the commercial sex appointment was set for 11:30 a.m.

After seeing a woman dropped off at the apartment building, police initiated a traffic stop, and the driver — identified as Calvin Keith Caldwell Jr. — was arrested.

Police said Caldwell Jr. was charged after they examined his cell phone and social media, as well as interviewed a commercial sex worker who admitted to having a romantic relationship with him.

Authorities requested a high bail amount because of his criminal history, his significant out-of-state travel, and a recent police report stating that he physically assaulted a sex worker.

Caldwell Jr. was convicted of felony-level soliciting prostitution in Dakota County in 2010.
