Sheriff’s Deputy Charged With Third-Degree DWI

WHITE BEAR LAKE, MN — A Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy is accused of driving drunk off duty early Monday morning. A breath test during a traffic stop in White Bear Lake showed Amanda Rose Skelly, 26, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.21, according to the criminal complaint.

The legal BAC limit to drive in Minnesota is .08.

On Dec. 17 at 1:22 a.m., a White Bear Lake police sergeant was on patrol when he noticed a white Chevy Impala with a broken taillight leaving the parking lot of a sports bar.

During the traffic stop, the driver — identified as Skelly — emitted an odor of alcohol, and her eyes were bloodshot and glassy, according to police. Skelly’s speech was slow and slurred, investigators said.

She admitted to consuming alcohol, the criminal complaint states.

After a preliminary breath test, Skelly was arrested and taken to the White Bear Lake Police Department. An additional breath test found that she had a BAC of .18 at 2:45 a.m., police said.

Skelly, a Maplewood resident, was charged with third-degree DWI. She is currently on administrative leave, a Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman told the Pioneer Press.
