South Washington Schools Appoints First Female Superintendent
Julie Nielsen agreed to a three-year contract at Thursday's board meeting.
WOODBURY, MN — Seven members of the South Washington School board unanimously appointed Julie Nielsen as the district's new superintendent at Thursday night's meeting. Nielsen is the first woman to be the superintendent for South Washington County Schools.
She agreed to a three-year contract.
Nielsen was previously the district's assistant superintendent. She will officially replace Dr. Keith Jacobus — who is retiring — on Sept. 2.

"Julie has been instrumental in preparing the district for an uncertain school year," said board chair Tracy Brunnette in a release.
"Her deep knowledge of the complexities of the district and the challenges we are facing will allow for a smooth transition of leadership for our families and staff."

Nielsen worked for South Washington County Schools for 24 years. She started as a student teacher at Grey Cloud Elementary and Oltman Junior High School before she was hired as a varsity basketball coach and physical education specialist.
"I am incredibly humbled and excited to begin my next journey with a district that feels like home," stated Nielsen. "I am looking forward to building and strengthening relationships and hearing directly from our students to better meet their needs."
