Postseason soccer claimed its first local victim on Tuesday as the boys squad lost its sectional opener, as all three area volleyball teams moved closer to the close of their regular seasons.

The New Life boys soccer team saw its 2011 season come to a close as the ninth-seeded Eagles were defeated 2-1 at No. 8 seed St. Paul Harding in the opening round of the Section 4A Tournament.

East Ridge vs. Woodbury Volleyball
claimed District 833 volleyball bragging rights this season after out-lasting visiting cross-town rival in a five-game marathon (25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 15-10).
Sara Biermaier led the Royals with 27 kills, with Olivia Wangensteen claiming 18 kills and a team-high nine digs. Abyssinia Andualem-Emiru paced Woodbury with 51 assists. Individual statistics for ERHS were not made available.
The win improved the Royals to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the Suburban East Conference, while the Raptors dropped to 11-12 overall and 4-4 in the SEC with the defeat.
Woodbury wraps up conference play at Forest Lake on Thursday, then concludes the regular season with an appearance in the Eastview Tournament this weekend and a matchup at Rosemount next Tuesday.
East Ridge concludes its Suburban East schedule versus visiting Stillwater on Thursday, then also plays in the Eastview tourney before wrapping up its pre-playoff slate at Edina next Tuesday.
New Life Volleyball
A 3-1 loss (22-25, 21-25, 25-19, 12-25) at Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity dropped the New Life volleyball team to 14-9-1 overall and 4-2 in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Association this season.
Individual statistics from the match were not made available. The Eagles play the MCAA's alpha dog, Southwest Christian, at 8 p.m. Thursday, then conclude the regular season at home versus Minnehaha Academy at 7 p.m. next Tuesday.
