Valentine's Day Concert

An Enchanting Evening of Jazz Music and Romantic Readings 

Squire House Gardens 

announces its annual Valentine’s Day concert, Saturday, February 15,

with seatings at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Now in it’s 17th year, this popular event is held at Squire House Gardens, 3390 St. Croix Trail 

So, in historic Afton, MN.  Guests  will relax in a Victorian Parlor and be treated to live jazz and classic
American songs, poetic readings, romantic musings, complimentary wine from
Swirl Wine Bar in Afton and delectable desserts.

"Our Valentine's Day Concert is unique and special every year,” said Martin Stern, Owner of Squire House Gardens. “Yet I can always promise  beautiful music, great conversation, plenty of laughter and a inspired celebration of romance and love.”

2014 Concert Performers:

PATRICK HARISON: ACCORDION

Patrick Harison is an American button accordionist adept in a wide variety of settings and genres. He currently performs in a diverse array of projects including Patty and The Buttons, Jack Klatt and The Cat Swingers, Eisner's Klezmorim and others. 

Patrick is also active as an orchestral soloist playing both classical and pops

programs with top orchestras across the United States. When not performing, he

is an in demand composer, session musician, educator and arranger.


MAUD HIXSON: VOCALS

After being presented as “Best New Voice” at the KBEM Winter Jazz Fest in 2003, Maud Hixson has since worked with a variety of local groups from the Wolverines to the Jazz MN Big Band, as well as international artists such as Warren Vaché, Jon Weber, and Evan Christopher. She is also the co-founder of the continental sextet French 75 with clarinetist Tony Balluff.


RICK CARLSON: PIANO

Rick Carlson is a devotee of Count Basie and Duke Ellington, and has played with The Wolverines since 1984. Rick has recorded with local singers Maud Hixson, Charmin Michelle, Judi Donaghy, Sue Tucker and Ame Fogel.  Rick has backed many national artists including Kathryn Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, and Wynton Marsalis.
