Woodbury-Based Gas Chain, MN Oil Refinery Sold In $23B Deal

The east metro oil refinery​ employs more than 350 people.

WOODBURY, MN — Marathon Petroleum is set to become the largest refining company in the United States after a $23 billion deal that includes the sale of Woodbury-based Super America and the St. Paul Park oil refinery.

Marathon announced Monday it will buyout Andeavor, the current parent company of the gas station chain and east metro refinery.

There are 285 SuperAmerica stores in Minnesota, Wisconsin and South Dakota, the Star Tribune reports. The buyout also includes a SuperAmerica-owned bakery and Andeavor's 17 percent ownership in a Twin Cities crude oil pipeline.

The St. Paul Park refinery employs more than 350 people.

Ohio-based Marathon currently sells its brand of gasoline through approximately 5,600 independently owned retail outlets across 20 states and Washington D.C.

Speedway, a Marathon subsidiary, owns and operates the nation's second-largest convenience store chain, with about 2,740 convenience stores in 21 states.

Marathon currently has ownership of approximately 10,800 miles of crude oil and light product pipelines.
