Woodbury Boys Lacrosse Wins Close Game Over Stillwater

The Woodbury boys lacrosse team defeated Stillwater 7-6 Monday Night.

On a beautiful Monday evening, the boys lacrosse team hosted Stillwater in what was set to be a great back-and-forth game.

Woodbury got ahead early in the game with goals by Matt Potter and Ben Alberts. However, the Ponies answered with two goals of their own, tying the game at the end of one quarter. Stillwater went ahead with a goal in the second but Jim Rudesill answered and Alberts scored his second goal to give the Royals a 4-3 halftime lead.

The start of the second half was controlled by the Ponies—they scored consecutive goals to again put them ahead of the Royals. Woodbury would respond as Rudesill scored his second goal of the game, which tied the game at five going into the final quarter.

Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Christian Turner scored a goal for Woodbury and that gave them a lead they would not relinquish. Matt Wardell added another needed goal as Stillwater was able to score one more time in the game. Stillwater nearly tied the game with a shot in the final seconds but great defense by the Royals secured the 7-6 victory.

The Royals next game will be 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at home against Edina.
