Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. WOODBURY, MN — A Twin Cities teen is facing a felony theft charge after police said she stole more than $2,000 from Dick's Sporting Goods in Woodbury's Tamarack Village. Police claim Kayla Juane Johnson, 18, of Woodbury stole $2,140.71 while she was working as a cashier for the store. The alleged theft, which the criminal complaint states occurred through six different transactions, took place between July 5 and July 15, 2017, according to authorities. Johnson could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted.
