A Woodbury man has been charged with attempted burglary and aiding the attempted theft of a vehicle. The incident began outside the Lifetime Fitness location in Woodbury.

On Aug. 22 at 9:29 am, police officers were dispatched to the Lifetime Fitness parking lot on the report of a theft from a motor vehicle.

According to the criminal complaint, the victim was leaving the gym when he noticed two sets of his keys and his cell phone were gone. The victim also noted the center console and glove compartment had been rummaged through and paperwork containing his home address were missing.

A Woodbury police officer, identified in the complaint as Officer Rheault, gave the victim a ride home. As Rheault pulled up to the address, the victim saw that his truck was gone and a white car was parked in the driveway instead. As they neared the home, a male quickly walked away from the driver's side of the vehicle and fled. A second male was in the driver's seat and attempted to back out and leave. Rehault commanded the second male to stop the vehicle.

As the officer was speaking to Gauster, the victim noticed his keys lying on the front passenger seat of the vehicle, and yelled, "hey those are my house keys!"

The victim also grabbed his vehicle registration from the seat that had his home address on it.

When asked where the Black Dodge Truck was that was parked in the driveway, Gauster said he could show the officer where it was parked. Gauster was placed under arrest.

Police say Gauster stated that he had known the other male, whom he identified as Daniel Callinan, for ten years. Gauster also said he had helped Callinan remove items from the victim's vehicle in the Lifetime Fitness parking lot.

Gauster admitted that he and Callinan had gone to the residence with the intent to take items from the home.

Shortly thereafter Callinan was found hiding in a nearby park. He was tasered and detained.

Callinan is currently on parole and has a hold to the Department of Corrections.

Gauster is currently on probation in Ramsey County and Washington County.
