Woodbury Man Convicted for Slapping Son, Locking Him Out of House

Thomas Daniel Davison, 42, got probation and a stayed sentence.

A Woodbury man is on probation following his conviction for in Cottage Grove.

Thomas Daniel Davison, 42, admitted to police that he backhanded his son (who was 13 at the time) after he locked the boy out of a house and the child continued ringing the doorbell, according to the criminal complaint.

His malicious punishment of a child sentence also specifies that he remain law abiding, adhere to a domestic abuse no-contact order and enroll in therapy, among other conditions.

The incident occurred on Dec. 6, 2011, at a home at the 7800 block of Irish Avenue in Cottage Grove.

According to the complaint, Davison and his son got into an argument, which resulted in Davison locking the boy out of the house.

The boy proceeded to then ring the doorbell repeatedly and when the boy's mother attempted to intervene, Davison grabbed her by the arm and threw her to the ground, the complaint says.

In a post-incident interview, police photographed a cut on the inside of the boy's lip and documented blood on his shirt and on the ground outside the home. 

The complaint also says Davison admitted to harming the boy and locking him out of the house when questioned by officers. 

The complaint lists Davison's current residence as the 11000 block of Oak Grove Circle in Woodbury.

On Dec. 8, District Court Judge Ellen Maas issued a no-contact order against Davison, which effectively barred any contact between the man and his son.
