Woodbury Man Ordered To Pay Restitution On Identify Theft

The 54-year-old was convicted of identity theft and unemployment compensation fraud earlier this year.

WOODBURY, MN — Washington County Attorney Pete Orput this week announced that Hai Jay Phu Vu, 54, of Woodbury was ordered to pay statutory restitution of $772,439 upon his conviction on a massive identity theft and unemployment compensation fraud.

Vu was convicted and sentenced to 78 months in prison on Sept. 17, by District Court Judge Mary Hannon. She scheduled a separate hearing to determine restitution for late last month.

"Identity theft has become a pernicious plague as criminals obtain the source of their victims’ funds through use of identifying documents," Orput said in a statement.
