Test Drive Ended With Woodbury Man, Vehicle In The Pond

COTTAGE GROVE, MN — A Woodbury man escaped serious injury Sunday after driving his vehicle over an embankment and into a pond at Walmart's Cottage Grove location.

Just after 2:30 p.m. Sunday, the motorist, 74, was test-driving a vehicle and drove it through a fence in the store parking lot.

The South Washington County Bulletin reported the vehicle then went over an embankment, about eight feet high, and fell into the pond off East Point Douglas Road.

Good Samaritans nearby helped pull the man from the vehicle. Emergency crews lifted the man from the pond using stretcher and transported him to Regions Hospital in Saint Paul.

The vehicle was removed from the pond Monday.

The driver told police he did not remember what happened after he hit the gas pedal.
