Woodbury Netters Fall In Sectional Finals
Royals valiant against top seeded Eastview, lose 4-3 in Inver Grove Heights.

Despite a valiant effort, the Woodbury boys tennis team saw its season come to an end with a narrow loss to the top seed in its sectional championship match on Wednesday.

After defeating No. 2 seed Eagan in the Section 3AA semifinals on Monday, the third-seeded boys tennis team came ever-so-close to pulling off another upset over a South Suburban Conference squad in the championship match on Wednesday.

The Royals took No. 1 seeded Eastview to the limit at Simley High School before falling 4-3 after a thrilling afternoon in Inver Grove Heights.
Jake Sajevic and Jason Lu won for Woodbury at No. 2 and 3 singles, with the No. 3 doubles team of Zach Moore and Jan Groth also emerging victorious to give the Royals a 3-3 tie with just one match remaining.

It all came down to a battle between Woodbury's Dennis Zhou and Eastview's Will Biernat at No. 1 singles, with Biernat getting the better of the lead Royal—6-2, 7-6 (7-3)—to clinch the sectional title for the Lightning.
Next up for a selection of Woodbury netters is the 3AA individual tournament, to be held May 27-June 1 at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.
Moore/Groth and Sajevic/Jason Lu will compete in the doubles bracket, with Zhou and Dennis Shubers competing in singles play.
Woodbury Softball: Royals Eliminated In Section 4AAA
The Woodbury softball team—seeded sixth in the Section 4AAA Tournament— saw its season come to an end in a 5-1 loss to third-seeded Hill-Murray on Tuesday in Maplewood.
Individual statistics were not available. The Royals compiled a 9-10 record this spring.
Woodbury Boys Lacrosse: Royals 6, Roseville 5
A 6-5 win over 11th-seeded Roseville in the opening round of the Section 5 Tournament advanced the Woodbury boys lacrosse team to a quarterfinal matchup at No. 3 Edina on Friday at 8 p.m.
Individual statistics were not available. The Hornets won a regular-season matchup over the Royals, 12-11, on May 17.
Woodbury/East Ridge Girls Lacrosse: Benilde-St. Margaret's 11, Griffins 10
The Woodbury/East Ridge girls lacrosse team, seeded eighth in the Secton 5 Tournament, was eliminated from postseason play in an 11-10 home loss to ninth-seeded Benilde-St. Margaret's on Wednesday night.
Individual results were not available. The Griffins compiled a 5-8 record this season.
East Ridge/Park Boys Lacrosse: Minneapolis 6, Raptors 3
A 6-3 loss to ninth-seeded Minneapolis ended the eighth-seeded /Park boys lacrosse team's season in the first round of the Section 5 playoffs.
Individual results were not available. The Raptors concluded the spring with a 6-8 record.
