Woodbury Police: Sexual Assault Scam Hits Day Care Providers

Authorities in Woodbury are warning residents about a recent scam involving claims of sexual assault injury.

WOODBURY, MN — Authorities in Woodbury are warning residents about a recent scam. The Woodbury police wrote on Facebook Monday that local day care providers are receiving letters from an anonymous person stating that a child came home from day care with injuries indicative of a sexual assault.

The sender demands payment in the form of Bitcoins and threatens that no response will result in the sender reporting the crime to police. The letter and return address appear real.

If you receive this letter, police say no action is necessary unless you have additional information to share.
