Woodbury Sends Two to State in Swimming

The team competed at the Section 4AA Finals at Stillwater Junior High School on Saturday.

Most of the boys swimmers and divers wrapped up their season on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Section 4AA Finals at Stillwater Junior High School.

Team members Victor Lugg and Greg Norsten qualified for the state meet, which will take place this Friday and Saturday, March 4-5, at the University of Minnesota.

Ten schools competed in the Section 4AA meet. Final scores were: Mounds View, 508; Stillwater, 488; , 249.5; Woodbury, 205.5; Roseville, 163.5; North St. Paul, 158; Park, 139; Tartan, 137; White Bear Lake, 88.5; and St. Paul Harding, 42.

Royals ninth-grader Eric Westfall, senior Aaron Pan, 10th-grader David Khazanovich and senior Andrew Atwood swam the 200 medley relay and came in ninth with a time of 1:55.53. Seventh-grader Garrett Norsten tied for 13th in the 200 free with a time of 2:01.24 and 11th in the 500 free with a time of 5:18.56. Eric

Westfall placed 13th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.24 and 14th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.60.

Eleventh-grader Norsten won the 200 IM with a state meet-qualifying time of 1:58.12 and also won the 100 fly with a state-qualifying time of 52.71.

Lugg won the 50 free with a state-qualifying time of 21.95 and placed second in the 100 free with a state-qualifying time of 47.37.

The 200 free relay team of Lugg, Nate Henning, David Khazanovich and Greg Norsten placed third with a time of 1:32.49. The 400 free relay team of Lugg, Will Bobo, Eric Westfall and Greg Norsten placed third with a time of 3:29.32.

The Royals divers helped the team get to fourth place as well with 11th-grader Nathan Jensen placing seventh, 10th-grader Andrew Pederson placing ninth and seventh-grader Ian Carr placing 23rd.
