Woodbury Sports Roundup: New Life Softball 10-Runs West Lutheran

Schmidt strikes out 13 as Eagles bounce back from first conference loss since 2005; Woodbury, East Ridge softball teams both shutout on Thursday.

Thursday was a big day for softball in town as , and were all in competition with mixed results on a frigid afternoon—24 hours after the Woodbury baseball team claimed its first victory of the season.

New Life Academy Softball: Eagles 13, West Lutheran 3

The New Life Academy softball team bounced back in a ferocious manner after losing its first Minnesota Christian Athletic Association game since 2005 as the Eagles 10-runned visiting West Lutheran, 13-3, at the .

After losing 5-4 at Lester Prairie on Tuesday, the Eagles took care of business by scoring in every inning. Pitcher Rebekah Schmidt went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBI and three runs scored; the senior also struck out 13 West batters while allowing just four hits.

New Life, now 3-1 on the year, is scheduled to play at Rice Lake (Wis.) at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.

Woodbury Softball: Park 10, Royals 0

The Woodbury softball team has yet to score a run this season after suffering its second-straight shutout to open the spring in a 10-0 loss to visiting Park.

Four Royals errors in the game helped contribute to a seven-run Wolfpack fourth inning that basically put the game away. Woodbury mustered just one hit on the afternoon as pitcher Abbie Morris took the defeat.

The loss dropped the Royals to 0-2, including a 4-0 loss at Hastings in the season opener on Monday.

Woodbury has the weekend off before heading across town to face East Ridge at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.

East Ridge Softball: Forest Lake 9, Raptors 0

After defeating Park, 8-1, in the season opener on Monday, the East Ridge softball team found itself on the opposite side of the scoreboard in a 9-0 home loss to Forest Lake.

Pitcher Sam Gregory took the loss for the Raptors, who accumulated three hits in the game as the Rangers scored in five of seven innings.

East Ridge (1-1) hosts Woodbury at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.

Woodbury Baseball: Royals 11, Park 0

After losing its first two games of the season, the Woodbury baseball team clobbered intra-district rival Park 11-0 in Cottage Grove.

The Royals' Ryan Fritze led the offensive parade with five RBIs and a home run on a 2-for-4 day in the batter's box. Woodbury pitcher Jacob Roerick earned the win with five innings of work.

Mounds View is scheduled to visit WHS for a 4:15 p.m. start on Friday afternoon.

Woodbury Boys Tennis: Royals Win Twice

The Woodbury boys tennis team defeated Centennial 4-3 in a non-conference match on Wednesday before topping Hastings 6-1 on Thursday in a Suburban East Conference contest. Individual results were not available.

East Ridge/Park Boys Lacrosse: Rosemount drops Dist. 833 squad to 0-2

The East Ridge/Park boys lacrosse team fell to 0-2 with a 7-3 loss at Rosemount on Thursday.

It was the second loss in as many days for the District 833 co-op team, which lost 8-7 at home to Mounds View on Wednesday.

Individual results were not available. East Ridge/Park hosts Holy Family Catholic at 7 p.m. Monday.

Woodbury Girls Track and Field: Royals Second at Triangular

The Woodbury girls track and field team recorded 76 points to take second in a non-conference tringular meet at White Bear Lake on Thursday. Individual results were not available.

New Life Academy Boys Golf: Eagles Seventh In MCAA Home Meet

The New Life boys golf team carded a 185 to finish seventh in its MCAA home meetat Eagle Valley Golf Course on on Thursday. Individual results were not available.
