Woodbury Leadership Academy (WLA) is a tuition-free, K-12 public charter school where high expectations and success matter to all! Our learning environment and school community promotes academic achievement for students in grades K-12, as well as personal integrity, equity and a dedication to value and serve others. Our school is committed to our students’ long term success. We use inquiry based learning by teaching the Core Knowledge Curriculum — building strong skills in math, reading, writing, history, science and technology. We also have a strong character education program to ensure students develop exceptional leadership skills. The character education program includes service learning projects and a focus of five core virtues - respect, responsibility, perseverance, gratitude and humanity. WLA uses the rigorous and classical Core Knowledge Curriculum to build strong foundational knowledge across subjects, promoting academic excellence and equity. By ensuring all students share common knowledge, we can narrow achievement gaps and build critical thinking and long-term success. Small class sizes at WLA allow for teachers and staff to provide personalized instruction, build strong relationships, and increase student engagement. It took a double-overtime goal-line stand by to secure a 35-34 win over in front of a capacity crowd Friday night. The play stopped a two-point conversion attempt by the Raptors, giving the Royals the win against their cross-town rivals. In the second overtime, Woodbury (3-1) scored on a Sawyer Moon to Quran Al-Hameed touchdown, and converted the kick to make it 35-28. East Ridge responded with a four-yard run by Nick Leach. Coach Mike Pendino opted to go for two, and the conversion failed. The Royals controlled game from the outset—leading 14-0 at the break—but the Raptors capitalized on Woodbury turnovers to score 21 unanswered at one point in the second half. Woodbury travels to White Bear Lake next Friday and East Ridge meets Hastings for homecoming.
