When Lake arrived in the office where Tate was located she immediately told Tate of the active warrants and that Tate would be taken into custody.
Tate reportedly became angry and yelled and accused the specialist of "doing this." Lake asked Tate to turn around to be cuffed and she refused. As she tried to turn Tate around, Tate pulled away, according to the criminal complaint.
Tate was placed against the wall and she started to yell at the officer, calling her a racist.
Lake had asked for assistance in transporting Tate to the jail and as she and Deputy Weber tried to escort Tate she continued to yell and pull away.
As they entered the secure side of the jail, police say Tate was becoming more and more physical and continued to shout profanities at the officers. Tate was placed on a mattress to remove her handcuffs, and she continued to fight and kick and buck her legs. At one point, she allegedly bucked and her leg struck Lake in the chin smashing her teeth.
Lake noticed immediately that her teeth were damaged and one was loose.
After Tate was secured by jail staff, Lake was seen at Lakeview Hospital.
Lake was diagnosed with a concussion and a broken tooth as a result of the kick from Tate. She will require additional dental care to repair her damaged teeth.
Tate appeared in court this week.
