Woodbury's Donnelly Places Fifth at State Wrestling
Donnelly finished the day with a 3-1 win over Mayo's Jake Hanson in the fifth-place match.
Two members of the wrestling team finished their seasons Saturday at the Class AAA state meet at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Justin Herold-Plakut finished the state tournament with a 2-2 record at 112 pounds. He defeated Maple Grove’s Joey Neumann 5-2 on Saturday before losing to Albert Lea’s Lucas Hanson.
His teammate, Ben Donnelly, finished the state meet with a 4-2 record and a fifth-place finish. Donnelly, wrestling at 130 pounds, defeated Rochester Mayo’s Jake Hanson 3-1 in the fifth-place match. He also defeated Owatonna’s Bowen Schultz 7-5 in overtime and lost to Willmar’s Alex Johannes 4-2.
