1. Amazon employees evacuated after issue at MS facility; cause unknown (wreg.com) — Workers at the Amazon fulfillment center in Byhalia were evacuated Tuesday morning after employees reported a possible gas leak or chemical spill, with some saying people began coughing and vomiting. First responders cleared the scene and staff were allowed back inside after about two hours, though officials and Amazon have not yet confirmed exactly what happened.
2. Big plans (southreporter.com) — A new shopping plaza is planned for Victoria Road in Byhalia after county supervisors approved rezoning five acres near the I-22 interchange from residential to neighborhood commercial. Developer JuanLuis Alvarado envisions multiple shopping centers, a mechanic shop, and small businesses like salons and pet services, potentially creating around 50 jobs once construction begins next year.
3. Hawks soar past Indians (southreporter.com) — Byhalia football fans saw the Indians fall 58-22 to rival Holly Springs on Friday, despite two long touchdown runs from David Lewis. The loss drops Byhalia to 2-3 heading into a key Region 3-4A road test at undefeated Senatobia this Friday, giving local supporters a clearer picture of where the team stands entering district play.
4. Holly Springs proposes cemetery rate hike (southreporter.com) — Holly Springs officials are considering raising cemetery plot and burial fees to match prices in nearby Byhalia and Olive Branch, aiming to curb out-of-town demand and protect future space. The board also advanced a major drainage repair project, discussed using tourism funds for park upgrades, and approved routine financial claims and a fire department resignation.
