1. USM School of Leadership to update graduate programs (wjtv.com) — USM's School of Leadership in Hattiesburg is renaming and updating its Human Capital Development graduate programs starting Fall 2026, shifting focus toward leadership, talent, and organizational development. Current students will get guidance through the transition, while prospective students can already apply under the new program names.
2. Hattiesburg mayor calls for information after two college students shot at business (wjtv.com) — Two college students are recovering after being shot early Saturday near Harbor Bar & Grill on North 25th Avenue in Hattiesburg, and police are still searching for suspects. Mayor Toby Barker is urging anyone with information or video to contact Hattiesburg police, as the business has already turned over surveillance footage and is cooperating with investigators.
3. 'Rethink that decision': Bike shop warning against e-bikes for kids (wdam.com) — A Hattiesburg bike shop owner is urging parents to think twice before putting kids on fast e-bikes, especially along busy streets like Hardy Street. He refuses to sell e-bikes for minors, warns that crashes at 20–28 mph can be devastating, and recommends e-bike-rated helmets and strong road knowledge for anyone who rides.
4. Tickets on sale for 'The Color Purple' in Hattiesburg (wjtv.com) — Hattiesburg theater fans can now grab tickets for "The Color Purple" musical, coming to the Historic Hattiesburg Saenger Theater September 24–25, 2026. Presented by the Historic Mobile Street Renaissance Festival and Twin Forks Rising, and produced by Laurel Little Theatre, the show brings Alice Walker's powerful story of resilience and self-discovery to a local stage for just one weekend.
5. Jane Granberry Carries Ole Miss Spirit as Miss Mississippi (olemiss.edu) — A Hattiesburg native, Jane Granberry is using her Miss Mississippi title to champion literacy across the state while proudly representing the community that raised her. The Ole Miss alum and former Miss Hattiesburg will compete for Miss America on Sept. 6, crediting her university experience for the leadership and communication skills she brings to the role.
