1. West Jackson residents say water outage has lasted over a month after landlord's failure to pay bill (desotocountynews.com) — Residents at Addison Place Apartments in west Jackson say they've gone more than a month without running water after JXN Water disconnected service over the landlord's large unpaid bill. Tenants describe relying on bottled water, makeshift toilet flushing, and trips elsewhere to bathe, while city officials and code enforcement weigh next steps and broader tracking of troubled Jackson apartment complexes.

2. Jackson police misconduct probe deepens amid trust concerns (wapt.com) — Trust in the Jackson Police Department is under strain as a dispatcher faces charges and a detective is sidelined in a widening misconduct investigation that now involves state and county authorities. Recent issues with officer behavior and a stolen SWAT rifle, plus looming budget debates, raise fresh questions about oversight, credibility, and how safely JPD can serve Jackson neighborhoods.

3. Jackson State WR Jaden Lockhart, brother of QB, suing NCAA for sixth year in 2026 (clarionledger.com) — A Jackson State wide receiver, Jaden Lockhart, is suing the NCAA in Hinds Chancery Court to gain a sixth year of eligibility for the 2026 season. Lockhart argues delayed handling of his medical hardship waiver cost him two playing opportunities, making this the second JSU player to seek court help for eligibility ahead of the upcoming season.

4. Jackson firefighters hurt battling blaze on Florence and Rosemont (wapt.com) — Two Jackson firefighters are recovering after suffering burns and dehydration while battling a massive blaze that destroyed vacant duplexes on Florence and Rosemont avenues during an intense heat wave. Crews fought 50-foot flames for hours, with Captain Chip Rochelle stressing how extreme temperatures and heavy gear make summer fires especially dangerous and require frequent hydration breaks to keep firefighters safe.

5. Jackson's 'Black Mecca' Pioneer: How a Civil Rights Dentist's Legacy Was Etched in Federal Stone (fox40jackson.com) — Jackson residents are reminded how the A.H. McCoy Federal Building and Farish Street's "Black Mecca" roots grew from one dentist's civil rights courage and business success. Local leaders, including Mayor John Horhn's office, reflect on how Dr. McCoy's financial independence helped fuel activism that reshaped Jackson's Black business district and civic life.
