Jackson elementary school receives thousands of new books (wapt.com) ā Students at Shirley Elementary in Jackson are getting a huge literacy boost, with more than 18,000 new books and a full library makeover after Jackson Public Schools won Scholastic's 2026 Richard M. Robinson Literacy Champion Award. The district plans to use the high-quality, age-appropriate books in classrooms, take-home packs, and reading libraries to deepen a culture of reading citywide.

Jackson NAACP tackles flooding, insurance costs, housing (wapt.com) ā Jackson residents and neighborhood leaders just met at St. Philip's Episcopal Church for a ReBUILDing Jackson workshop on flooding, drainage, and aging infrastructure, with special focus on Wards 1 and 2. Hosted by the Jackson NAACP and Jackson Association of Neighborhoods, the event linked infrastructure problems to insurance costs, housing stability, and household budgets, while urging better access to assistance for families citywide.
