Today's riddle: What has a cap but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Jackson Municipal Airport Authority Awarded $1 Million Federal Grant to Pursue Daily, Nonstop Service to Chicago (northsidesun.com) — Jackson's airport authority has secured a $1 million federal grant to pursue daily nonstop flights between Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport and Chicago, a route the airport doesn't currently offer. The funding will help JMAA court airlines and prove demand, potentially giving local travelers faster access to national and international destinations and strengthening the region's business and family connections to Chicago.
2. Takedown: Leigh Bridges Sinks Jackson Area Federal Credit Union (blogspot.com) — Jackson Area Federal Credit Union in Jackson has been liquidated after regulators found it insolvent, with Five Star Credit Union assuming member accounts and keeping all three branches and 23 employees. City of Jackson and Hinds County workers who used JAFCU will keep insured access to their money, while the federal insurance fund absorbs the massive deficit instead of passing losses to Five Star members.
3. Hinds County could lose off-site body storage (mississippitoday.org) — Hinds County officials are preparing to end use of a temporary morgue near Raymond, which has helped handle unclaimed bodies and overflow from Jackson's record homicide years. The change could affect how unclaimed bodies from Jackson are stored and buried, as the county leans more on pauper burials at the penal farm cemetery and refines procedures to avoid past notification failures.
4. Investors plan grocery warehouse and apartment complex in Jackson (wapt.com) — Developers are working to bring a new grocery warehouse and renovated Willow Street apartments to a long-underserved part of Jackson, where nearby grocery stores have recently closed. City officials are cautiously supportive but stress zoning and planning approvals are still required before anything is guaranteed. Residents are hopeful, with a ribbon-cutting for the apartments targeted for November.
5. Engagement Celebration - Party Honoring Emma Lucas and Duncan Scanlon (northsidesun.com) — A local couple, Emma Lucas and Duncan Scanlon, recently celebrated their engagement with a large party hosted by friends and family, and they'll be married November 14 at St. James Episcopal Church. The reception is planned at the Country Club of Jackson, making this a notable social event for many Jackson-area families named throughout the announcement.
