Here are the top stories in Jackson today:
- On Thursday, Atmos Energy donated leak detection equipment to the Jackson Fire Department and the Mississippi Public Service Commission. The company is donating seven Sensit Gold G2 combustible gas leak detectors, a calibration unit, and other items necessary to maintain the detectors. The Sensit units are designed to detect 4 types of gases: methane, carbon monoxide, oxygen, and hydrogen sulfide. (WJTV)
- The Mississippi Supreme Court has denied a petition for post-conviction relief filed by attorneys for Justin Underwood. Underwood was sentenced to death in connection with a 1994 murder of a Flora woman and he will not have another day in court. (WLBT)
- Jackson has reached a grim milestone after a pregnant woman and her unborn child were killed on Beasley Road on Wednesday night. With 19 homicides so far this month, December 2021 has now become the deadliest month in Jackson's history. (WLBT)

- Jackson State University alumni Marcus A. Thompson has established a $50,000 scholarship endowment that will help pay for tuition, textbooks, supplies, and other fees for eligible Mississippi natives who are studying special education. (Facebook)
- As a way to say thank you to hunters for doing their part, the Foundation for the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is sponsoring a CWD Prize Raffle this hunting season. For every sample submitted between October 1 to February 15, your name will automatically be placed in the drawing for one of three cash prizes!
