Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Jackson Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Jackson long term. First, today's weather:

Mostly cloudy and warmer. High: 67 Low: 43.

Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:

  1. A body was found in Battlefield Park on Highway 80 on Wednesday morning. According to authorities, the body appeared to have been at the park since late Tuesday night; a preliminary inspection revealed trauma to the body. The Hinds County coroner reports an autopsy will be conducted, at which time the state medical examiner will determine the official cause of death. (WAPT Jackson)
  2. As the legal battle over conditions at the Raymond Detention Center continues, a new Hinds County detention center project is now underway. The new facility, which could hold 600-700 beds, could potentially address issues such as staffing and dangerous conditions for inmates. According to Sheriff Tyree Jones, the Raymond Detention Center will permanently close once the new jail is up and running. (WAPT Jackson)
  3. Last Saturday (Mar. 5), nearly 100 Mississippi high school students attended Jackson State University to engage with and learn about local health care programs. The Exploring Healthcare Pathways program, held at participating campuses statewide, offers prospective students information on programs offered at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). The aim of the program is to inspire Mississippi high school students to pursue careers in health care, as well as to establish the importance of health for the state's population. (WJTV)
