First, today's weather:
Heavy afternoon thunderstorms. High: 83 Low: 59.
Here are the top three stories in Jackson today:
- The Jackson Police Department is investigating a triple shooting that occurred at the bus station on Mill Street. Clinton Newsome, 53-years-old, was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the other two victims are unknown at this time. (WAPT Jackson)
- Jackson's Councilman Kenneth Stokes and Police Chief James Davis marched against violence on Saturday. The march was reportedly an effort to speak with neighbors while reconnecting with the community. A rally was held after the march that allowed local organizations to disseminate information about job opportunities in the community. (WJTV)
- Jackson lawmakers have spoken out about the struggles that Jackson endures to secure state funding. The lawmakers report that Jackson suffers from an image problem that hindered the city from securing funds for its sewer system. There is reportedly a perception among state lawmakers that Jackson's political in-fighting needs additional oversight to ensure funds are spent properly. (Winona Times)
