Here are the top stories today in Jackson:
- A Jackson charity benefited from Melissa Joan Hart's $1M 'Wheel of Fortune' win. Youth Villages, a Mississippi nonprofit, planned to use the money for its LifeSet program which serves young adults aging out of the foster care system. Those kids will learn independent living skills such as finding a job, opening a bank account, and finding transportation. (WAPT Jackson)
- Mississippi set a date for the state's first execution since 2012. The inmate withdrew his appeals and filed court papers once saying he was "worthy of death." The execution date is set for Nov. 17. (Jackson Free Press)
- The new development near Jackson Medical Mall will include around 200 homes and businesses. (WAPT Jackson)
- Scholars at Obama Magnet Elementary raised awareness in the fight against cancer with the 'Rocking for the Cure' event. (WLBT)
- Fishing on the Barnett Reservoir spillway will soon require a permit. (WLBT)
