🌱 DEA Announces New Initiative + 200 Pounds Of Cocaine Found

Hey, people of Jackson! It's me again, Kayla Harrison, your host of the Jackson Daily.
First, today's weather:

Here are the top 3 stories in Jackson today:
- A federal judge issued a contempt of court order against Hinds County leaders because of conditions inside the Raymond Detention Center. The judge also threatened a federal takeover of the facility. Last year, six inmates died in the jail, there was a second number of inmate sites, and a large amount of contraband. Lawyers filed a motion to terminate the consent decree. (WAPT)
- On Monday, the Drug Enforcement Administration announced a new initiative — Operation Overdrive. The initiative was created to combat the rise in drug-related violent crime and overdose deaths. The DEA located the threats and initiated operations against the networks in 32 locations, including Jackson, across 23 states. (WJTV)
- On Friday, you may have passed by a large drug bust on Interstate-20 near Brandon. More than 200 pounds of cocaine were found inside a large passenger bus during a traffic stop. A Rankin County sheriff's deputy found the drugs after pulling over the bus. The driver gave consent to search the vehicle and that's when officers found 20 wrapped packages. Two men were also arrested at the scene. (Clarion Ledger)

- Mississippi Department of Transportation shared that a project to replace two bridges on SR 198 is moving forward in Marion County, and construction of the first bridge is complete. Crews are expected to begin work on the second bridge in the upcoming weeks. (Facebook)
- Mississippi Park Connection announced that Mississippi NRRA is accepting applications for a permanent interpretive park ranger. The park ranger will be an interpretive leader in the park by developing and presenting a wide variety of interpretive products including, formal interpretive programs, site tours, kayaking programs, guided hikes, and large-scale special events. (Instagram)
- Mississippi Department of Transportation is asking residents not to tailgate other drivers. Instead, follow the speed limit and leave some room between you and the car ahead of you. (Facebook)
