Morning, people of Jackson! Kayla Harrison here with today's copy of theJackson Daily.

First, today's weather:

Partly sunny and pleasant. High: 71 Low: 44.

Here are the top stories today in Jackson:

  1. The number of officers at the Hinds County Detention Center continues to dwindle, while a five-percent pay raise promised to them as part of the 2022 budget has yet to go into effect. A status report shows that 207 workers were in place as of Sept. 30, about 110 fewer than the facility needs to be fully staffed. The report further states that, based on the number of resignations that occurred in the first nine months of the year, the turnover rate among jail workers in 2021 is expected to be around 30%. (WLBT)
  2. Children's of Mississippi is one of 15 national hospitals to receive a donation from this year's Nominate a NICU program. Hospitals are nominated for the program by parents, families, and hospital employees who share their stories about their NICU or NICU staff. The Jackson-based hospital received 28 nominations this year, as well as a donation of five MamaRoo infant seats. (WJTV)
  3. Emails show that the City of Jackson informed state officials of water treatment problems just hours before a visit from EPA Administrator Michael Regan. (Northside Sun)
  4. Jackson firefighters responded to a hotel fire Monday morning near Highway 80 and Ellis Avenue. (WJTV)
  5. The Capital City is on the verge of another year with a record number of murders: Jackson has 130 homicides this year, matching the city's 2020 record. (WAPT Jackson)
