Here are the top three stories today in Jackson:

  1. State lawmakers in Jackson have approved a bill meant to increase emergency rooms throughout rural Mississippi. The bill allows for the creation of freestanding emergency rooms that do not have to be attached to a hospital. The bill has been approved by both chambers and is now headed to the governor's desk for signature. (Jackson Free Press)
  2. Jackson State University has been awarded $508,572 by the National Science Foundation. The announcement was made by United States Representative Bennie Thompson on Monday. The money will be used to offer education in state-of-the-art materials characterization technology. (WJTV)
  3. This month is Autism Awareness Month and Mississippi Early Childhood Inclusion Center is celebrating by offering free autism screenings. The event will be hosted on Monday, Apr. 25 in numerous Mississippi counties. Click the link to make an appointment and for more details. (WJTV)
